SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCING
Friday 16 and Saturday 17 March 2012

Adjudicators: Ann Taylor, Buckie and Fiona Turnbull, Barnard Castle
1. No person may compete in more than one team in any one class.
2. A team must have 4 couples.
3. Mixed teams must consist of 4 men/boys and 4 women/girls.
4. Competitors in all classes must intimate on the entry form the name of the dance selected. No change of dance will be allowed.
5. Except in SCD12, 15, 16, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 26 each team to dance EIGHT times. Where two dances are set, couples one and two should dance the first dance and couples three and four the second dance.
There will be a chord at the start and finish of both dances.
6. In all classes where an age qualification is stated, the age to be taken as at 1st March 2012.
7. OWN CHOICE dances must be selected from Books published by the RSCDS (not branches).
8. OWN CHOICE dances in SCD11 and 13 must be 32 bars.
OWN CHOICE dances in SCD17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 must be no more than 40 bars.
9. An official accompanist is available for all classes with the exception of classes 15 & 16.
These teams should provide their own music. A CD player will be available. A piano will not be available.
10. THE TEACHER OF A TEAM MAY INDICATE TO THE ACCOMPANIST THE SPEED REQUIRED FOR THE DANCE.
11. In the event of a single entry in any one class, an award will be given only if the competitor gains 82 marks or more. A full adjudication will be given each time.
12. Certificates will be awarded as follows:-
90 marks and over Honours
86-89 marks Very Good
82-85 marks Good
13A. Only First, Second and Third places will be announced by the adjudicator but copies of the adjudicator‟s remarks are available to each team. These together with the Certificates should be collected at the end of the class.
13B. SCD13 – Written adjudication will be given but no marks awarded. First place only will be announced.
13C. SCD15 and 16 – These classes will not be marked. Helpful comments will be given.
14. The adjudicator‟s decision is final.
15. The use of Recording and Video Equipment and Cameras of any kind is Not Permitted in the hall. This is because of legal and copyright restrictions.
16. Would teams from outwith Aberdeen please state on entry forms the earliest possible arrival time and also if your team(s) would be available to dance on a Saturday if necessary.
PLEASE NOTE
Changing facilities are extremely limited and it cannot be guaranteed that mixed teams will be offered separate rooms.
It is recommended, where possible, that all dancers arrive dressed ready to perform.

SCD13 THE BUTCHART CHALLENGE – Teams of adults and young people in any
combination over 10 years of age. The trophy will be awarded to the team showing the best team work and the true social spirit of Scottish Country Dancing.

SCD15 OPEN CLASS
Groups of children of Primary or Secondary School age whose teacher is inexperienced in Scottish Country Dance. This class may be entered for a maximum of two years. There is no restriction on the combination or number of children taking part. Own Music to be provided – CD or own musician and instrument (a piano will not be available in the hall).This Section will not be marked but helpful comments will be given.
Test Dance – A maximum of four minutes will be allocated to show dancing to
Reel or Jig tempo.
SCD16 OPEN CLASS
Groups of children of Primary or Secondary School age who have been dancing for less than one year. There is no restriction on the combination or number of children taking part. Own Music to be provided – CD or own musician and instrument (a piano will not be available in the hall).
This Section will not be marked but helpful comments will be given.
Test Dance – A maximum of four minutes will be allocated to show dancing to Reel or Jig tempo
SCD17 Women’s teams not under 16 years of age
no member of which may hold the Preliminary Test, the Teacher‟s Certificate, Unit 1, 2, 3 or 5 of the RSCDS or be in attendance at a class for same.

NOTE: The trophy donated by Foveran School P.T.A. will be awarded for the most spirited entry from Classes SCD1 and SCD2.
